The challenge
How can we reinvent the visual identity of a childhood brand for an entirely new audience? The goal was to shift Playmobil from toys to interior design while preserving its playful DNA. We had to find the right balance between nostalgia and modernity to speak to design-conscious adults.

Playmobil Home is a rebranding project that transforms the brand into a modular furniture label. Users can customize their pieces like building a Playmobil house. We have created a minimalist and colorful design language, supported by a full e-commerce website and a mobile app for furniture simulation.

This project was part of a design sprint focused on brand repositioning. We worked as a team to create a new art direction, develop a digital product experience and build a design system called Modulo. The target audience was adults aged 25 to 40 with a passion for interior design and playful modularity.

We began with a benchmark comparing Playmobil’s visual codes and the aesthetic trends of modular furniture brands. From there, we defined new user needs and created personas aligned with our target. Wireframes helped us explore how users would interact with a playful yet functional configurator, blending emotional design with a seamless shopping flow.

The Solution
We built a brand that invites users to create their own furniture like they once built toy houses. The experience includes an e-commerce website and a mobile app, both designed for intuitive customization. At the core of it all is Modulo, a structured design system with responsive grids, UI components, and playful iconography inspired by the brand’s original shapes.

The Result
Playmobil Home offers a bold repositioning of the brand. The visual identity combines geometric elegance with childhood nostalgia. The interface feels simple, colorful and refined. The ecosystem is coherent across web and mobile, and the overall experience brings design and imagination together in a new adult-oriented universe.

Lessons Learned
This project taught us how to shift a brand narrative without losing its essence. We learned how to define a strong design language, prototype user flows with purpose and build a scalable design system. It also reminded us that playfulness, when paired with strategy, can lead to surprising and meaningful design solutions.
